How PolitiMeter reads the news.
Political framing is not the same thing as truth. Our system separates article perspective, corroborated facts, and confidence so readers can inspect the evidence.
1. Discover and normalize
PolitiMeter reads public RSS and publisher-permitted pages several times each day, stores article metadata and short excerpts, and links readers to the original reporting. Duplicate URLs and syndicated copies are removed.
2. Group the same event
Claude compares the supplied headlines, excerpts, locations, and timing to group reports about the same underlying event. Broadly related articles are not enough. State events may publish after two independent publishers cover them; national and world events require five.
3. Estimate framing
Claude evaluates each article’s wording, emphasis, and presentation on a left-to-right scale. The rating describes the framing of that article, not the publisher as a whole, and never labels a report true or false.
4. Build the facts report
Every statement in a facts-only report must be supported by at least two independent reports. Published pages preserve meaningful disagreement and identify details that remain unresolved, even when state coverage has fewer publishers available.
5. Correct visibly
Material changes receive an updated timestamp. State events with fewer than two independent sources—and national or world events with fewer than five—remain in the developing queue.
Public article discovery is scrape-first. Event clustering, article-level framing ratings, neutral summaries, and facts-only reports are assisted by Claude Sonnet 5, with deterministic source thresholds based on coverage level.
